Frequently Asked Questions
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and glucose biosensors are both tools used to track your glucose levels. However, a prescription from a doctor is required for CGMs, whereas Stelo is over the counter, making it even easier to get. The Stelo Glucose Biosensor is built on the most accurate continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology from Dexcom and is designed for those aged 18 and older and NOT on insulin. This product is NOT suitable for persons using insulin, on dialysis, or those with problematic hypoglycemia.
Adults (18+ years) not on insulin who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes and are not at risk for hypoglycemia, and those interested in tracking their glucose. Stelo is NOT intended for those with problematic hypoglycemia or on insulin or dialysis.
Stelo is waterproof up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) so you can move confidently in and out of the water.§, 2 You can also get the biosensor wet while bathing, showering, or swimming. If you’re in or near water, your compatible smartphone* may need to be closer than 20 feet (6 meters) to get biosensor readings.||, 2 The patch stays on longer if kept dry. The Stelo biosensor is waterproof and may be submerged under eight feet of water for up to 24 hours without failure when properly installed.§ If you’re in water, you may not get readings until you get out.

IRS Publication 502 provides the definition of a qualified medical expense for purposes of FSA/HSA coverage1. Qualified medical expenses include the cost of devices used in diagnosing and treating illness and disease. Stelo is a glucose biosensor that delivers reliable glucose information to manage your glucose and lower your A1C and is therefore a qualified medical expense. If you want to reimburse your Stelo purchase using FSA/HSA funds, we recommend checking with your plan administrator to ensure your purchase meets their requirements.
A Flexible Spending Account1 (FSA, also called a “flexible spending arrangement”) is an employee benefit that allows you to set aside money from your paycheck that you can use to pay for certain out-of-pocket health care expenses. Your FSA dollars can be used to cover medical costs, including eligible over the counter (OTC) healthcare products.2
A Health Savings Account1 (HSA) is a type of savings account associated with an HSA-eligible health plan that lets you set aside money to pay for qualified medical expenses. You are eligible to put money into your HSA up to a certain yearly limit set by the IRS guidelines.3

Stelo Glucose Biosensor safety statements
INDICATIONS FOR USE: The Stelo Glucose Biosensor System is an over-the-counter (OTC) integrated Continuous Glucose Monitor (iCGM) intended to continuously measure, record, analyze, and display glucose values in people 18 years and older not on insulin. The Stelo Glucose Biosensor System helps to detect normal (euglycemic) and low or high (dysglycemic) glucose levels. The Stelo Glucose Biosensor System may also help the user better understand how lifestyle and behavior modification, including diet and exercise, impact glucose excursion. The user is not intended to take medical action based on the device output without consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.
STELO IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Consult your healthcare provider before making any medication adjustments based on your sensor readings and do not take any other medical action based on your sensor readings without consulting your healthcare provider. Do not use if you have problematic hypoglycemia. Failure to use Stelo and its components according to the instructions for use provided and to properly consider all indications, contraindications, warnings, and cautions in those instructions for use may result in you missing a severe hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) or hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) occurrence. If your sensor readings are not consistent with your symptoms, a blood glucose meter may be an option as needed and consult your healthcare provider. Seek medical advice and attention when appropriate, including before making any medication adjustments and/or for any medical emergency.
